Types Of Treatment For Juvenile Offenders - 2045 Words

Introduction: The type of treatment for juvenile offenders has been debated among people for many years. Whether it is a rehabilitative treatment or a tougher treatment, it is hard to determine which one actually works. The Capital Offenders Group is a program that is more treatment based and uses a more rehabilitative approach. In comparison, boot camps are an approach focused on tougher treatment. It is especially hard to choose one type of treatment for juveniles because they have no yet developed completely so one universal treatment cannot work for everyone. A tougher approach will work for some kids, but a rehabilitative approach will work for others. The main idea is to reduce recidivism and to help the youth realize that they need to change their ways. The system needs to look at which approach is more effective in the long run and focus on that for the most part in order to rehabilitate more youths and get them out of the system and keep them out. Description: One of the main ideas of the group and in the prison is resocialization. The youths that are put in to the Capital Offenders Group have been in the Giddings prison for a few years before they are actually put into the group. The juveniles have to learn new things in the population of the prison, things they did not learn from their families. They learn how to communicate without using violence, how to accept criticism without getting angry, and how to develop a new introspection.
